Agripreneurship is defined as generally sustainable, community oriented, directly marketed agriculture. Sustainable agriculture denotes a holistic, system-oriented approach to farming that focuses on the interrelations of the social, economic and environmental process . Simply stated, Agripreneurship means entrepreneurship in the broad field of agriculture for young people. Kaveri Kala Manram is involving agriculture development during last ten year in small scale through irrigation development & coconut plantation with 827 water coconut projects accrues the country. KKM’s one of the new key strategies will being on Agripreneurship empowerment & it will be implementing since October 2019 towards next five years.

KKM Agripreneurship empowerment program will reach 12,000 youths across the Sri Lanka & it will be achieving following UN -SDG 2030 by its activities.

  1. Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
  2. Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security and adequate nutrition for all, and promote sustainable agriculture.
  3. Good Health and Wellbeing: Attain healthy life for all at all ages.
  4. Quality Education: Provide equitable and inclusive quality education and life-long learning opportunities for all.
  5. Gender Equality: Attain gender equality, empower women and girls everywhere.
  6. Clean Water and Sanitation: Secure water and sanitation for all for a sustainable world.
  7. Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, sustainable, and reliable modern energy services for all.
  8. Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all.
  9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Promote sustainable industrialization.
  10. Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequality within and among countries.)

Agriculture is the lifeblood of the economy in most developing countries, and food processing accelerates agricultural production and promotes sustainable agricultural intensification Therefore, more attention needs to be paid for the development of youth entrepreneurship in food producing , processing, preserving and packaging of the agricultural products. Food is often grown in huge quantity that cannot be consumed at a time and needs to be processed to store it for a prolonged period. Attention should be given to value addition , Value chain and export of the processed food in order to enhance its shelf life, to make food available whole year and for the availability of more variety.

Objectifies for 2019 -2023
  1. To develop of Sri Lankan national economy & social integrity among all ethnic groups through entrepreneurship development this increases the income level and employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas.
  2. To helps in inducing productivity gains by smallholder farmers and integrating them into local, national and international markets.
  3. To helps in reducing food costs, supply uncertainties and improving the diets of the rural and urban poor in the country for poverty reduction .
  4. To generating growth, increasing and diversifying income, and providing entrepreneurial opportunities in both rural and urban areas.
